Question 1

What is a Jolly Card in Commander probability?

Accepted Answer

A Jolly Card is a versatile card that can fulfill more than one role in your deck — for example, Solemn Simulacrum counts as both Ramp and Card Draw. Instead of forcing it into one category, you mark it as Jolly and assign it to multiple categories. The calculator then considers it can fill whichever role is needed, giving you more accurate probability results.

Question 2

How does the hypergeometric calculator work for a 99-card Commander deck?

Accepted Answer

The calculator uses the multivariate hypergeometric distribution to compute the exact probability of drawing specific card combinations in your opening hand. You define your deck size (99 by default, since the Commander lives in the Command Zone), hand size (7 by default), and card categories with min/max constraints. The tool enumerates all valid draw configurations and sums their probabilities.

Question 3

What is the probability of drawing a specific card in a Commander opening hand?

Accepted Answer

For a 99-card singleton deck drawing a 7-card hand, the probability of drawing a specific single copy of a card is about 7.1%. Since Commander decks are singleton, most cards only run 1 copy — use this calculator to find exact probabilities for any deck configuration and category mix.

Question 4

Can I import my Commander decklist from Moxfield, Archidekt, or MTG Arena?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Paste a plain-text decklist (Moxfield/Archidekt style, one 'qty name' per line with an optional Commander section) or an MTG Arena export (with set code and collector number per line) — the importer detects the format automatically, resolves every card via the Scryfall API, and separates your Commander(s) from the rest of the library.

Question 5

Does the deck builder check color identity and banned cards for Commander?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once you set your Commander (or Commander + Partner/Background), the builder compares every card resolved via Scryfall against the combined color identity and flags anything outside of it, plus anything on the official Commander ban list. This is a visual warning only — it never blocks your probability calculation.
